Divisions at the Midwest Youth Cup: Premier, Gold, Silver, Bronze

The Midwest Youth Cup runs four competitive divisions in every age group: Premier, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. This structure means every team plays three meaningful matches against opponents at their level, regardless of where they sit in the broader competitive landscape.

How brackets are seeded

After the March 1 registration deadline, the tournament director seeds each division using:

  1. Recent league finish position (last 12 months)
  2. Recent tournament results at comparable events
  3. State cup performance
  4. Coach-reported strength assessment
  5. Director's discretion to recast brackets when team counts are uneven

Final bracket assignments are published with the schedule on March 12.

Bracket structure within a division

A typical division uses pool play into a single-elimination knockout round. Pools are three to four teams each. Pool winners (and sometimes pool runners-up, depending on division size) advance to the knockout round Sunday morning. Every entered team plays at least three matches, pool losers play a third-place pool match where required to guarantee the three-game minimum.

Common Inquiries

Which division should our team enter?

+
Most teams self-select based on recent league results. Premier is for state and regional level teams. Gold is for established travel teams with strong league results. Silver is for developing travel teams in their second or third year. Bronze is for first-year travel teams. If unsure, contact the tournament director, overplacement creates uncompetitive matches for everyone.

What if our division doesn't have enough teams to fill?

+
If a division has fewer than four entered teams after the registration deadline, the tournament director may combine or recast brackets to ensure every team gets level-appropriate matches. Teams are notified by email if their bracket is recast.

Can a team request a specific division?

+
Yes. Teams indicate a preferred division during GotSport registration. The tournament director may suggest an alternative if registration history shows the team would not be competitive in the requested bracket.

Do divisions earn different trophies?

+
Every division winner, Premier through Bronze, earns a champion trophy. Runners-up earn finalist medals. The Premier champion in each age group is the headline winner of that age group.
