Premier Division at the Midwest Youth Cup: State and Regional Level Competition

Premier is the top bracket at the Midwest Youth Cup. It is built for teams currently competing at the state cup and regional level, clubs whose schedule already includes MRL, National League P.R.O., or state-cup play. The Premier final in each age group is the headline match of the weekend.

Who plays Premier

Typical Premier teams are:

  • Recent state-cup finalists in Illinois Youth Soccer
  • National League P.R.O. participants in the Midwest
  • Midwest Regional League (MRL) teams
  • YSSL Premier or IWSL Premier table leaders
  • Top travel teams from Wisconsin South, Indiana Youth Soccer, Iowa State

Seeding inside Premier

Premier brackets are seeded by:

  1. Most recent state-cup result
  2. MRL / National League position
  3. Spring league standings
  4. Head-to-head results with peer teams
  5. Tournament director's adjustment to balance Premier A and Premier B if applicable

What Premier looks like during the weekend

Premier matches are scheduled on the featured lighted fields. Three-person referee crews. Tournament scheduling priority for the Sunday afternoon final slot. Trophy presentations on the field immediately after the championship match.

How to know your team belongs in Premier

A general rule: if your team has finished top-four in its primary league in the last twelve months and has played MRL or state-cup level competition, Premier is a competitive home. If your team's last competitive bracket placed it in the middle of a regional table, Gold is typically a better fit.

If unsure, email the tournament director with your recent results, Gabe will help you place into the right bracket.
